How much is a soil anylasis

The cost of a soil analysis depends on where you live, what labs you choose, and what tests you decide to have run. In most areas of the U.S., there are County Ag. Agents that can direct you to the best option for your area. Here where I live, it's only $7 for a basic soil nutrient/pH/soil-type test... well worth the effort and time.

Are you growing any paste tomatoes? They tend to be the most prone to BER, although I had it on Rose de Berne one year, but nothing else.

If you try to water evenly, you should be able to avoid it, and even if you do get it, you may find that it's only the first few tomatoes that come down with it and the rest are fine.

One hypothesis about the cause of BER is that it is due to the relative unavailability of calcium in the soil at cooler temperatures. After the soil warms up, the problem fixes itself. It's disappointing though, because those damaged tomatoes ripen up faster, so you have to throw the first few away. Unless the problem continues after the tomatoes start to ripen in earnest, I wouldn't do anything about it.
