Orchid identification

Hi,

Can ayone help me identify this orchid? It looks like a phalaenopsis, but it has a gigantic bulb (plus the stringy roots). It's been in the same media for several years, and I'm looking to repot it in some newer material.

That certainly does not look like any orchid I know.... looks more like an Amaryllis type of bulb, do you have a picture of the flower...

BTW an amaryllis would be planted down in potting soil with leaves only protruding above soil line.

BTW2, I can absolutely confirm that it is NOT a phalenopsis....

When I repot it, should I set the bulb on top of the bark mix, so long as the roots are underneath?

The edges of the leaves have hairs on them. It looks like a phalaenopsis, but those don't have bulbs (and I have several of those). Is this even an orchid??

Thank you for your response! It does look more like an Amaryllis. It has never bloomed - probably because it's been sitting in bark for the past seven years. Yikes!

I never saw hairs on a Amaryllis bulb. I grow them in the ground in Florida. I have no idea what that is, but I would repot it in a very well draining mix.

Whatever it is it stores water. The size of the bulb and the thickness of the leaves. My guess this plant likes dry conditions and high light.

I would repot in a cactus type soil and move it gradually to a very bright, sunny window. Grow it dry, only water when it is completely dry.

I'm guessing, but that's what I would do if it were my plant.
