Ready for Spring

Well I've officially caught the rose bug. After years of drought, we finally received a much needed soaking this past winter here in the Bay Area. This will be the second spring since completely demo-ing and re-landscaping my back yard, there were several neglected roses that I inherited when I bought the house, and I replanted them and a few new roses along the perimeter of my yard interspersed between hydrangeas and fruit trees. After the great rains this past year they are all well rooted and very happy. These roses include Elina, Intrigue, Double Delight, Tropicana, Oh My!, Gold Medal, Home and Family, Bewitched, Mr Lincoln, Perfect Moment, Tiffany, Grande Dame, Twice Spice, Mme. Isaac Perriere, and Moondance.

This year, I've made the most of my self imposed budget (didn't pay more than $9 for any plant), by scouring the local Home Depot, Lowe's and OSH, and have planted in planters several roses along the south southwest facing fence of my side yard on a crushed gravel pathway including a few climbers that I'll train on the fence outside of my dining room windows. As you can see from the list, I like lots of color and fragrance.

Front to back, All My Loving, Golden Showers, Joseph's Coat, Blaze, Fragrant Cloud, Fragrant Plum, Rio Samba, Mon Cheri, Blue Girl, and Proud Land

Oh My! Is such an attractive bush, even without blooms.

Twice Spice is probably my best producer, hard to believe that it is no longer sold, such a great rose.
