Congrats on the new place and getting trees in already. And what a cute helper you have. A half acre is a good amount of space and flay, well I am a little jealous there. I was just saying I would like a dozer to come flatten some space here so I don't have to constantly be running up and down. Keep us posted.

What kinds of trees did you plant.

I have 3 apples, 3 peaches, 1 nectarine, 2 plums and 1 4n1 pluot. 4 trees I had recently planted at our old place and I dug them up last fall in anticipation of this move. I'll probably add another apple a couple more peaches and a few pears and be set. I have small Stella cherry in a pot right now but it's not doing so well.

Nice! I really want to plant trees too, but they scare me for some reason. I have two columnar apple trees and they've recently started blooming. They were a Mother's Day gift. So happy they made it. Congrats on your new place and new trees!

What a nice variety. I am lame as I have not planted anymore trees. Every year I say I am going to and something happens financially I am not able. This year a portion of my market income will go to trees. I so enjoy the ones I have. 1 giant apricot, 2 pear, 2 peach and 3 mystery that just bloomed this year first time. I think they are plum.

Hi Mike, Congrats on the new place! I hope y'all are happy there. I am glad you were able to dig up and move some of the recently-planted trees. I was hoping you didn't leave them all behind. Your helper is so adorable!

It must feel odd to not have a garden spot already with onions growing in it, but I have faith you'll get that garden spot going as soon as possible. Do you have sandy loam there?

Keep us posted on how everything goes. The hardest part of moving, at least for a gardener, is the whole challenge involved in starting over with the garden plots and orchard, but I have faith you'll have everything growing like mad in no time at all.

That's so true. I hate it when the house type stuff and other things get in the way of gardening, so maybe it works to your advantage right now that you don't have a garden to focus on too much until y'all get settled in more into the new house and get all the things done with it that need to be done.

Glad to see your priorities are in order, and your orchard is already planted (wink!) Ha I wish I would've done that the first week we moved to this house! We've been here 3yrs, and I only got my orchard in last spring. The trees are looking good so far, and have filled out amazingly fast. I think the plums have some borer damage, but I'm reluctant to spray anything.. I should've done a preventative dormant oil spray to catch the peach leaf curl upon bud break, but we just didn't get around to it so we'll just see how it goes. I don't see any symptoms so far, but 1 had it by the end of the season last year so I'm assuming it overwintered and will manifest at some point? Maybe someone can speak to that?

I have 4 peaches, 2 nectarines, 4 cherry, 2 plum, and 2 pear. Hoping to add apricots even though I know a harvest is rare here. I'd love to have apples but felt like it wouldn't be worth it since both my neighbors have cedar trees dripping with orange snotty rust Every year (Like NOW!) I'm only on 1.5acres so they are close enough to be a major problem. The pears got it last year.

That sure is a cute helper! My 16 month old is starting to help around here. She will gladly pick up my pruners and take them to the nearest bucket of water to plop them in lol And we have another helper on the way!

Here's part of the orchard. I'm ready for another truckload of free wood chips! Amazing how quickly they break down but so far the Back to Eden method has worked amazingly well for us at conserving water.

Congratulations, Alexis! Now, how are you going to find time to garden with your toddler and a new baby? Keep us posted on the impending arrival of your new little sprout. Babies are such a blessing.

What do you mean, Dawn? I thought You all are gonna come over and help me with the garden! Right?! I'll be SUPER Preggo in August so praying for a mild summer haha Fat chance! We'll make due, but nothing will keep me from at least trying... I may be delegating some task in exchange for tomatoes by then but my family is all close by and total scavengers when it comes to garden grown anything! Lol
