I’ve done lots of research - but there seems to be some contradicting advice on this topic. Which organic fertilizer should I apply now, in early spring (perennial ryegrass)? I fertilized with soybean meal last fall.

Corn gluten meal is often recommended because of its pre-emergent qualities and its high protein content. However, it is also very rich in nitrogen - which is supposed to be bad in spring as it promotes growth at the expense of the root system.

Soybean meal seems to be similar.

Alfalfa meal has much lower nitrogen content, but isn’t as protein-rich.

I’m confused - which fertilizer should I apply, if any?
