Kitchen problems

I need some advice on whether to paint or stain my cabinets. Price is important. Some of the cabinets are water stained. Then I would like to replace the linoleum with either Armstrong vinyl or ceramic tiles. Depending on the color/stain of the cabinets I need some help deciding if the floor should be light or darker in Armstrong I am looking at Alterna Mesa Stone Field stone and Alterna Mesa Stone Beige. I don't have to use these vinyls just thinking about it. I have a darker wood that would be up against the kitchen flooring (the opening) . Also I am thinking of cutting out the top cabinets (if I don't paint them) between the refrigerator and the pantry. To have an open counter effect from the kitchen into the dining room.
Leaving the bottom cabinets. Pictures 1 and 4 are the same wall kitchen
side and dining room side(maybe the top counters cut out and wall
opened up, leaving the bottom counters). One issues my tiles on the sink are a yellow tone and the walls are painted slightly a pink tone. Can't do the sink tiles right now. Will do window treatments later. Can you help

Please some advice.

Paint your cabinets. See color scheme below using the Alterna Mesa Stone Beige. Walls would be one of the paint color shown. As far as pass thru, add some shelving so that there is some intentional vale to the dining room side and not just a gapping hole.

If you paint you will have a very white kitchen, so you might want to consider a color for the cabinets or do a wood or wood look floor. However, do not do a faux wood floor if it will run up next to real wood.

It sounds like you would be hiring someone to paint the cabinets, which can be expensive. My mother was able to have some of her water damaged cabinets refinished by a cabinet refinisher. I cannot tell the refinished cabinets from the original. If you did that you could have just a few at a time done to keep it affordable.

I am not sure if I would open the wall up to the dining room - mostly it would show the side of the fridge to the dining room and it is a rather small area. You might at some time want to put a small microwave there and replace the microwave over the range with a hood - better venting and easier to use a countertop microwave.

FIRST THANK YOU BOTH SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR FEEDBACK IT IS INVALUABLE TO ME.

Thank you so very much for your expert response. Nancy, If I paint the cabinets is there a color in the same lightness as the grey tones only in very light tan/sand tones to match the walls bringing the walls and sink tiles together. I think the Mesa Beige pulls the walls and sink tiles together, but not sure about the cabinet color. I like the hardware for the cabinets and the picture with only the upper part of the wall cut out I will think about it. Is there a little lighter ashen tan 996 (what is the name of the paint brand, please kinda looks light grey). Can I put a little brown very lightly of course to mix in. Floor=The Mesa Beige will butt up against the wood flooring at the entrance to the kitchen. Is there anything I can use to separate the Mesa Beige from being up against the wood look entrance flooring before entering the kitchen. I was thinking to separate the vinyl for a foot or ? before entering the kitchen as I was thinking it would be dark wood to dark viny lgoing right into the Mesa Beige. I also pull some pink in the walls of the kitchen but the tile has yellow neutral tones in it. I am trying to pull it together. I will need maybe some honeycomb window treatments. What colors would go....

jhmarie - thank you for your feedback. I may look into a cabinet refinisher and may think about staying with the wood. I would not do the cabinets in a white, you're right it would be too white and that is not what I am looking for. Maybe a light beige/sand color or even light grey with a very very light brown tint. Do you know of any colors like that. Then I still have the flooring to do. I may only cut out a small rectangular portion as Nancy suggested. Thank you never thought about looking at the side of the refrigerator and pantry closet. Not very appealing.

Yes, the cabinets do not have to be that bright. The paint manufacturer is Benjamin Moore.

So the first decision you need to make is whether you are painting the cabinets. I would suggest creating an idea book in Houzz so you can see the types of finishes you are drawn to. I am posting two pictures for you to look at. The first one is more what I was suggesting with a dark backsplash. The second I believe is more what you are suggesting. Does one appeal to you more than the other. I'm not a fan of putting a border between the vinyl and wood floor. But, if it bothers you, I would only do a 6" width and border out the whole kitchen. Maybe instead of pleated shade, do a lined drapery panel on a traverse rod that opens to one side so you can add some color and pattern. I would not have anything over the kitchen sink.
