Theme-y or not, I would go with a braided rug in very light neutral colors. I threw in a sisal for comparison : )

Have you seen the rugs that look like pebbles? I saw some at Primitives in Austin, Texas

Whatever direction you go in make sure the rug is the correct size. In an open space like yours the rug will define the sitting area. If it is too small it can make the room look busy. You can tape it out with painters tape to get the right dimensions. If nothing in that size comes ready made and custom is out of the question then you could go with options like sisal that can be made to size.

If you like blue skies with your garden green, maybe this? Add ceramic with typical mix of blue and green too.

I love greens and creams, good for your room?... sold in a copper color also.

I look at the regular natural jute color, and I think it would blah/bland in your room.... unless you had a colored coffee table, etc... this green is fresh and lighter than last green.

Maybe - this aged rug not quite...? seems some gold/bronze, no green.

The pillow is a muted green/grey and the other one is a light blue one.

Before selecting the right rug (and size), wondering if you have ever tried your couch under the prints. I think your couch and the prints would be a focal wall, as the plant stand underneath doesn't really work their to your advantage. I would move the shoe rack/plants to the window to the left of the door, so it's not as prominent and the larger plant stand centered under the other window. Place your leather chair in the far corner and pull the floor lamp out a bit to sit between the couch and the chair and add baskets to the bottom shelf of your coffee table and rethink the top in how you have accessorized. This arrangement will look so much nicer as you enter - hope you try it! In regards to the rug, now measure for the right size. Whatever color you end up with, be sure to compliment with pillows and make sure they feel a touch rustic but keep it classic/simple for a casual, pretty room that feels natural and warm. Add a large basket in the room and place a comfy throw over the top. It's the small things that makes a room personal and welcoming. Good luck.

Maureen, at my old place I had the sofa under the prints and looked great. However, the layout in this living room is a little odd because if I put the couch under the print, the couch will directly face the front door. The couch is also deep so it ends up taking a lot of space... and doesn't feel very feng shui to face the front entrance. It's also not practical because I can't put a tv where the door is... the layout has been a big irritation to me.

Glad you like the pillows and rug. Too bad about the layout...but you could add a rustic table with a lamp under the prints and it would be an attractive vignette as you enter and the first thing you see. I would also place your floor lamp next to your chair to complete the side and it would be great to accent the wall behind the couch with a large mirror resting on the floor. Hope these ideas help.
