Under the ceiling fan is where I guess the dining room is suppose to be. Don't think I really need a second eating space being that it's only me. I don't even use the table in the kitchen. Lol. The couch seems to be too close to the door. Was thinking of having the ceiling fan centered. Any thoughts of how to layout this room better?

That sectional seems better-suited to your family room (I assume that is over the pass-through, where I can see a tv). What type of furniture is in there? I think that, if I were you, I'd get that space looking good first as it will get used more often. Then, I'd think about how to make this space more welcoming since it looks like your entry door is there. I'd think outside the box and maybe make it a reading room with shelving, smaller scale furniture, and a desk, and the area by the door a space to hang coats etc., with maybe an entry table, lamp, and mirror. So here's what I came up with. Yes, this would have been a formal living room and dining room. The dining room could become an office area. So my thought was to do drapery panels with sheers but continue the sheers on the wall since the sectional will be off-center. I would replace the ceiling fan but with what would be determined with how you want to use the space. If you entertain and have large groups of people, you could do 4 chairs around a round coffee table for a lounge vibe with a pendant light in the dining area. I'm happy to do other layouts if you think of how you may want to use the space. Dimensions of the room would be helpful. I would not do a center fixture. Recessed lights or possibly two matching lights.

You need COLOR! Brown, beige, and tan in one room is boring. Put the sectional in the family room. Buy a large area rug with three or four colors in it and float it in the living room. Use the colors in the rug for a sofa (or two) and two chairs. Pick up a few occasional tables and arrange your living room for conversation and cocktails. Be sure to add enough lighting in that large room. We all want our new place to be decorated immediately, and if you are coming from a larger place you may actually have enough to do it all at once. I would concentrate on the family room as your comfy space for now, with the sectional and the tv, and work on the living room in a while. Remember that art and color are often the things that make your home feel friendly and finished.

ok! gotcha. you do know you are allowed to express yourself right? now unless you add big beautiful original art to it, you will quickly become bored and you will hate it. it does not need to match the room only requires your love. you would be amazed at what you find - no big box store! go where you live or etsy or saatchiart!

can i have a front view of the sofa and can we move it more in the room? it does not need to be down there. lets give an entry way.

Another idea is this layout with couch back to the door making it a thoroughfare, if you have room you could add a narrow table against wall behind couch
