Thanks everybody! Yeah.... what is it about chickens? They make me happy too! Even tho I gotta pick up poop, scrape off poop boards, rake out their coop, mix up food for them (I do a fermented food mixture), etc.... LOL Even so, I just love them and they do make me happy and make me smile when I go see them. I love to hear all their silly sounds they make. And watching the chicken butts running around is so funny! They're the best thing we've done in yrs. Helps take the stress of everyday life away. And then we get eggs too! Lots of eggs...

I love your roses and the chickies are looking lovely. Mizz Ezzie is looking proud of herself lol. She's so pretty. Sometimes my more shy antisocial pullets get really sweet once they start laying eggs for awhile. Until they get babies then its back to being an evil Spitter dinosaur like on Jurassic Park lol.

Beth, love seeing your garden & chickens! We finally purchased chicks a week ago (Salmon Favorelles, Columbian Wyandotte, Lavender Americaunas, and Rhode Island Reds. The hatchery was out of other varieties we wanted but I was happy we at least got the with the lavenders. I have some Rhode Island Whites on order but probably need to cancel - I really don't need more right now (same problem with roses) :) Happy to have chickens in our family again!

Oh cool Dave!! I'd love to have some Lavender Orpingtons, but the Ameraucanas would be cool too. I have two Golden-laced Wyandottes and we just got baby Silver-laced ones. I reeeeeally want Blue-laced Reds but they're really hard to get. The hatcheries sell out fast, or you have to order too many. We also got two more Ameraucanas, and one is gold and grey similar to our older one Gertie. The other one is black with some brown. I can't wait to see them with their adult feathering. Oh and we have two baby light Brahmas. Ya know... like the Big Boss Brahma rooster from Kosovo?? He's been all over Facebook recently. Gorgeous bird! The hens are beautiful too. Mine are finally losing most of their yellow down. I just love chickens!! What can I say?? (almost as much as the roses!!)

I've never heard of a blue laced red. Wow - amazing! Silver laced Wyandottes are so pretty, too. You'll have to post pics of your Brahmas as they get older. So impressive to see those big birds.

Eeeeee yes chickens and roses!

These are my two latest (I'm trying to have self control.). Two Light Brahmas to add to my ladies in the backyard. I have two Ameraucanas, two gold laced Wyandottes and a white Jersey Giant...... and mmmmm a very large tom turkey, who's a stand in rooster.

OMG Dave you have to look up the BLRWs!! They are just gorgeous!! And another breed that's even newer and even harder to get (and expensive) are the Blue Partridge Brahmas! OMG the range of coloring and details in their feathers is amazing!

Seeingreen your babies are adorable! How old? My LBs are just over 4weeks old. The SLWs are 5weeks and the EEs (Ameraucanas) are 6weeks.

I just found one BLRW female - only one - available at a different hatchery. It was like it was meant to be! They required a minimum of three and so I threw is a Silver Laced Wyandotte and an Easter Egger, even though I may call and change it to a Golden Laced Wyandotte. I wanted an Olive Egger but they were out. My wife wasn't very happy with me (woops) but I have never raised Wynadottes before and look forward to it. I have to wait until June for the one chick and so they'll ship them all at that time.

Holy cow - those Blue Partridge Brahmas are so impressive!!! I better not jump into Brahmas right - I'd really get it trouble!

Bethnoecal you know I'm not completely sure of their age I think it's just over three weeks. We sell them where I work and the smaller one was being kept in the back due to a small injury....I think she might be a bit on the runty side but she's catching up :)

Go Dave!! You have to take pics of that BLRW when she gets big. Or any time! LOL I was going to try and order some and get some for my son too, but I also wanted Blue Cochins or Welsummers or something else too. They never have them available all at once. I'm already way past my "limit" so cannot order anything at all. I got too impatient waiting to try ordering them, so that's why I just caved and got my latest girls at the local feed store over the last month or more. You will love the Wyanodottes. My two GL ones are so pretty and one is my favorite. She sits on me and cuddles. They are a larger breed too. My Black Sex-links are my big girls, but the GLWs are almost bigger. Difference tho is the eggs. The Wyandottes lay light peach-colored med-lg eggs and the BSLs lay jumbo darker brown eggs. Both breeds are pretty consistent layers. The Barred Rocks and the EEs often skip a day here and there. And the BRs' eggs are a med-dk brown large, and the EEs of course are shades of light blue or mint green. It'll be interesting to see what the Brahmas do. And how big they will get!

Seeingreen, those little babes look a little younger than mine, so that would be about right. Mine are almost fully feathered now and they have a triangular spot of light black feathers on their back, and I love their "furry" feet!!

I just put them back out in the pen with the big girls before I left for work this morning. They were exploring more than they did the last few days I had them out there. Had to keep them inside the last couple of days due to the torrential downpours and freezing cold temps. Of course, today it was overcast when I left, then started raining again, then sun, then rain, hail, and even slushy snow for a bit. Now the sun's out again! Freakin' weird weather. I hope to be able to put the babies out all night tonight, but only if it quits raining. It's "supposed to" tho.
