Today has been just as good and I'm betting on a hard frost overnight.

So as the sun is now sinking in the west I shall be back outside to give the animals there evening feed and to wrap all the plants in fleece again.

Mazerolm there is only ever one yellow plant seen in mass profusion in Wales at this time of year.

Dave, you have a lovely slice of the planet! Can't wait you see those babies unfurled in two weeks or so. I'm hauling my pots in the shed in a day or so. Snow and frost predicted on this Thursday night, then temps in the 50s f , so another weather roller coaster here.

Dave - you have a greenhouse?

Yes windymess you spotted the greenhouse in the picture.

30ft x 11ft it's great for growing on seedlings and provides a warmer and drier environment to persuade plants to flower ready for pollination.

It's invaluable in our cool wet climate.

What's the potting soil mix you use for the container hostas? I see a lot of bark and perlite. Is is like one of those 5-1-1 mixes?

The good days like the few we are having at present are absolutely stunning.

I treasure them because the default setting for our weather is very wet and very windy.

I think I'm gettinga bit long in the tooth ( 64 ) for adopting but the door is always open to visitors.

Yes the potting mix is a 5111.

5 parts bark ( the only readily available is the decorative kind for mulching, it's quite large but it works )

1 part Vermiculite a large grade, I will use perlite if I can't get vermiculite

1 part Irish Moss Peat

1 part John Innes No2 Loam based potting compost

I also add a base fertilizer at the recommended rate.
