New to growing AVs

I would love to start growing African Violets but there doesn't seem to be any available in my area. Any suggestions? I don't buy anything online or use credit cards online so I am limited.

Gail, there is an african violet exchange forum on Houzz, it is not very active, but here is the link to it. I did notice someone posted about a month ago looking for leaves.

Thank you perle. I don't have any to trade yet, but once our area (central PA) gets a little warmer, maybe our Walmart will get a few in. In the mean time, I'll keep reading and learning.

Some folks will share leaves just for postage money. Are you interested in trying to root some leaves?

Home Depot and Lowes usually carry a decent selection of at least the basic pink and purple-flowered varieties.

Gail, look into joining an African Violet Society club. Then there is a chance to either get some leaves or a small starter plant. I think you are in Central PA. You can look it up with the American African Violet Society.

    Just a suggestion.

Gail, I would be happy to send you some too, all named varieties, I will even tuck in some baby plants. Do you think it is warm enough in your area? Send me a pm about this. PM by clicking on the persons profile name, that will take to their profile page and you will see a place on the right to click "message".

My own laptop died and I'm on my son's loaner. I think I have to download msgr first. I went to your profile page and no "message" showed up.

Hey, I updated my profile, where anyone can message me... if you click on the little picture beside my name, now, I think you'll see the "message" button! :)

Su, I found yours. Gail, the PM feature is the one on our Houzz profiles, you don't have to download anything. When you click on my picture or name is this message and it goes to my profile, look in the banner photo on the right and you will see a button saying "Message". You click on that. You don't have your profile set up to receive messages, so I was not able to PM you.

Gail when you click on her name click the "follow" box. Then go to her page and look in the right side and it should say "message". That will let you message her. Rosie
