yes you can grow it and will just die in the winter.

I was not expecting it to die outright in zone 6, just not spread invasively like in the south, especially being in a pot. So does anyone else think it will die in zone 6? I had seen on Daves Garden site that it grows in NY Ohio etc, I guess they could be zone 6b if in a city setting. A zone 5 gardener has seen it there too, I just don't know if was growing as an annual. Thanks.

It will die to the ground ever year in your zone but it will shoot out new growth each May. It is vigorous and will regrow very quickly. It does spread underground and it is common to find it popping up 5-15 feet away from the original plant. Keeping it in a pot will minimize this (just make sure the roots dont grow through the bottom of your pot)

It may not be such a big deal if it grows in other places other than planted in. I will have enough planters in my yard (pots) I am in the country, it can spread a good bit before causing much of a problem. It's not like it's running Bamboo.
