Probably Meyer lemon, Calamondin and Lime. Those seem to be the usual suspects around here. Never anything really interesting.

I'm Jealous! I am in Z8 and our Lowes won't stock citrus. I was laughed at by one person and scoffed at by another when I called last year to find out. They told me that citrus can't grow here. I told them it certainly can if I had been there in person I would have whipped out my phone and shown them proof lol.

Sammers- That's so crazy! People all over grow citrus inside. That's extremely rude and small minded of those people to not consider how it can be grown inside! I wonder if they do get a small shipment and just don't realize it. I would think that if the lowes here in Indiana gets citrus that surely orgegon would too!

Dave- hey I'll take what I can get! If I can save that $20+ on shipping I'm happy! I could use another lemon haha! Still kinda hoping they have a mandarin. I'll take pics if they have any cool varieties available. Maybe the stores will realize that if they stock it, people will buy it?

Molewacker- I'm trying haha! I lost a Meyer over the winter but my others are great! I've been waiting for someone to start an April picture thread because I finally have flowers to share! I use a LOT of lights and after learning about the 5-1-1 mix on here my trees are a lot healthier. They are so green right now! It has been warm but this week has been another cold snap, like I'm worried about my all my berry plants outside.

Funny indeed. We are going through the same thing here. Raining and 50F right now. Snow tonight. Yesterday was 68F and sunny.

Last year our Home Depot in Pittsburgh (zone 6b) had, for the first time, several limes/lemons and oranges too. About 12-16inches tall. Less than $20 if remember correctly. I was looking for a grafted one and none looked like they were grafted or I just could not see it.

Yesterday I was at a nursery and they had Owari Satsuma for $75 in 2 gallon pots. Both were 6+ ft tall. I was staring at them when I realize that one of them is 6ft trifoliata rootstock. The graft was dead. Graft points were about 20 inches up the stem. The second one had 2 pretty healthy rootstock suckers. I talked to the manager and she did not care.

tropicofcancer- oh wow! she didn't care that she was selling basically a dead tree (the fruiting part that is wanted)? What a terrible manager. I think that all jobs are equally important, so when someone doesn't take pride in their job it really aggravates me. Especially when a customer is telling them that they are selling a very expensive tree that's not what its supposed to be!

Amanda: You are spot on. I asked for a deal on the one that is just the rootstock. She told me that they paid $30 for the plant and that is what she wanted. I was thinking grafting but it did not seem like a good deal. Driving back I was thinking what a markup - $75 for a $30 plant. I guess that is how business is done.

That is an insane mark-up. I don't think that is a great either. She should've gotten the stores money back from the supplier (surely they would've realized that it was a trifoliata had they done a better inspection) and then sold it to you for $15. Win-win!

I was at the Corvallis HD today and saw absolutely gorgeous Meyer lemons. BIG- like 3 feet tall with upright trunks, full and bushy. $39.99. If it was a mandarin would have grabbed.

That's Awesome! I was at HD last week and they had some small Meyers about 1.5 ft tall. I am hoping they end up getting a Mandarin as well. Last year they had Meyers, Key Limes, Bearss Limes and Washington Navels. I got my Bears there last year at the end of fall for 50% off. Its a nice little tree. I was thinking about a key lime as well.

SO I went to Lowes this morning FULL of excitement. I got there and they didn't have ANY citrus. talked to 3 diff people on the phone this week that told me they just got them in, and about a month ago I talked to a garden manager that said they get a few meyer lemons and maybe others in the spring. I talked to two floor people this morning that claimed they have never seen any citrus ever and said they didn't have any right now. They didn't even look! I tried to look around inside and outside but my two yr old twins kept saying they were cold and wanted a snack, so I left. I don't think they would've been outside anyways because it is too cold here right now for them to be out. I am so confused as to whether they have them or not! I am also really disappointed because I thought I would have a new tree today. ugh. I might call again this weekend and try to get to the bottom of it. At least I have 3 baby trees coming in May. The fruit will taste sweeter because I will have had to put in so much growing time (like 2 yrs) before hand. HAHA!

I wonder if the HD in Indiana stock citrus. Everyone on here talks about finding nice trees and I am jealous! I haven't checked costco b/c I do not have a membership.

My HD had the Meyers out front, behind some blueberries I was surprised but I figure that they don't necessarily know how to take care of them they just stock the shelves.

Are my kids somehow different? My two eldest sons(3 and 4 yo) likes visiting some gardening/flower shops. "Could'nt you dad buy one of these?" "Dad, look how beautiful these are, mom would like these for sure" etc..

If they were allowed to decide, even our beds would be stuffed with plants :D

Aw, sorry to hear you ended up empty handed. I know my Lowe's doesn't get citrus ever. The HD gets Washington navel, Meyer and key. Kind of boring, and also expensive. Last year they also had some in the indoor garden area, very small plants for $20. Again, suppliers seem to think everybody only wants Meyers.

My problem with nurseries is that I'll go and if I manage to find an employee for help, I usually get the answer that I'm too early/late for what I'm looking for. So frustrating.

Jontte- haha! No, my two older children are VERY much into gardening and growing things! They even have their own raspberry and blueberry bushes! My little ones love to water and mist the plants. All my plants have ridiculous names that my kids have given them. I got started growing inside trees because my daughter was sad that it was winter and wanted to buy a majesty palm! She named it Bobby and it is still her favorite tree! It is starting to get big and I will have to get a green house or something when it outgrows our kitchen! I think my littles were just hungry when I went to Lowes. They did want to buy some flowers, though!

Hibiscus- I looked into the HD today and they don't have any either. I'm just going to have to give up trying to buy citrus locally.

Hopefully one of the online sellers will have a sale soon, like free shipping.If anyone sees a sale, let me know! I signed up for notifications from logees but they are the only one that has that feature.

Amanda, I just got an Autumn Gold (Citrus sinensis) and a Miho Wase Satsuma from Logee's that came yesterday. They are only about 12 inches tall but I am still glad to have them. I don't know anything about Autumn Gold, but I didn't remember seeing it there before. I see they are already on back order so I must have gotten the last one. I really wasn't going to order any more trees as I really have no more space, except for the Red Tango/Mandared which I have been searching for with no luck, but saw these and could not resist. Has anyone found Red Tango/Mandared trees for sale yet?

Our HD today had meyer lemons - about a foot tall. Grown from cutting and they looked not that great. I think it was $12.99 or something. I did not get any today. I am waiting for their big batch that is supposed to come soon.

My kids now have a rather large selection of bonsai and succulents that overwintered in my daughter's room. To her credit, she did water them and took good care of them. We just finished bringing them all outside now. Yes, if I let them, the house would be even more overrun with plants. I cannot tell you how many pathetic looking plants we have "rescued". Most are actually doing very well now :-)

I stopped at HD yesterday and the Meyers were gone, but the had 3 decent looking grafted Bears limes with no price tag in sight. and on a separate table they had 20ish Washington Navel Orange rooted cuttings for $14.95. I am not an orange eater usually since grocery store oranges have an off flavor to me but I wondered if I should give one of these a try since the cost was so low and they looked great. I know grafted is the preference but does anyone have an idea if the Washington Navel would do ok on its own roots in a container?/ Would I be able to keep the size down enough to have it in a container for its whole life? and lastly would the fruit be able to ripen in my climate? I had never considered growing oranges so I am not aware of their needs.

I know I have talked to you about plumeria before, I am part of a few Brugmansia FB groups and one of them has someone selling plumeria cuttings. I am very tempted to buy some as they are so beautiful but I am feeling crazy since I don't know where to put them come winter lol. Its an addiction for sure!

Finally HD in Pittsburgh has the following: Persian lime, key lime, meyer lemon, and navel orange. Some of them were dead before arrival. All of them are cutting grown. And they are $25 each. Not worth it really. Metal containers and bright labels are what they are selling.The same company (some dutch name) also selling figs, olives and blueberries on the same shelf. HD employees do not give a crap since quite a few had completely dried out.

But I still managed to get a key lime against my instincts.

Forgot, there were some Kumquats too - did not mention the variety.

I will pray for you and your purchase. An unnamed kumquat is a Nagami. It grafts the easies and Meiwas are very hard to graft.

Just called Lowes in Mass (4/24/2017), and they claim that they're getting them in in a few weeks. Not as of yet though.

Called Weston Nurseries in Hopkinton MA on 4/24/2017. They're getting in citrus on Friday of this week.

Has anyone seen any Variegated Lemon trees? I got one from HD a couple of years ago but it died. It was grafted and a nice specimen. I have not seen any more in HD since!

Emmett, which Lowes did you call? I asked at the one in Milford and they said they never get citrus. I have never seen them at HD or Lowes.

Amanda, the variegated lemon at Logee's is in a 2.5 inch pot. I went there last year and bought one in a 2 gallon pot. It almost died over the winter and is barely hanging in there now.

haha yeah that is a big difference! I prefer more established trees as well.

That is an important point about logees: 2.5 really is tiny.

I got my nagami kumquat from logees last March, and it has done fine. For slow growing kumquats, a small plant means a longer wait. Although according to logees, it should bloom for me this year?

Logees is expensive, and the plants tend to be in tiny pots, but they have things that no one else has.

The Lowe's was in Westboro MA.

I was at HD in Northampton Ma. They had navels (no idea what variety), key limes, figs, olives, blueberries, and meyers. The Meyers were in good shape, but everything else looked neglected. Blueberries were almost dead. Very sad. I brought home a key and a navel, repotted them and watered, then sprayed with soap. They are perking up nicely. $25 with those stupid metal pots. wish they cut the price and put them in cheap plastic.

I'll let everyone know about Weston today after I call. I'd like to find a kumquat and a Campbell valencia.
