If I ever received a loan repayment from the Feds, I would like to invest it in a Porsche. Sounds close enough?

If I get a refund this year, it might turn out to be enough to buy a bag or two of groceries... but I think I'm going to wind up owing them. Sigh.

What refund? I've actually forgotten what that is as the Feds just take, take, take, and then take some more!

We're trying to become debt-free. So, alas, it will be paying down the amount I owe on the car.

If you are getting a tax refund this year, you made a mistake by giving the government an interest-free loan. Adjust your withholding accordingly and get your finances in better order. THEN you may well have money to reinvest in your home, if that move makes financial sense in your particular situation.

I've spent the tax refund & more on a master bath update.

I agree with aiming to come out just right, without having overpaid by the end of the tax year. I think that's ideal. However if your income fluctuates as mine does, it gets a little tricky without spending extra on accountant fees. I'm usually close, and while sometimes I'm a little overpaid, I also have never had to pay a penalty for being underpaid in any quarter. In my view that would be worse.

Our tax refund is slim but it is going toward buying us a new organic and safe mattress.

I am getting about $500-ish and it is going to my house.

It is enough to pay for my new switch plates and door handles.

Other than that, this year's projects are: art, landscaping, a new patio set and grill, and fixing the cracks in the patio and driveway.

Next year will be flooring.

Almost done with the whole renovation.

We have our taxes set up to be enough to pay the property tax.

So in a way we are putting it back into the house.

No improvements however...

Going toward a kitchen remodel.

We try to keep our refund small (less of an interest-free loan to Uncle Sam that way) but what we got from the Feds and our state is going to energy-efficient windows. Ours are the original 1982 installation, complete with storm windows you have to remove/replace. Tired of that chore year-in, year-out!

Nope. We'll be using it on our first real vacation ever.

Went straight into savings. After an extended illness, stock market plunge, and company closure (all within about 5-6 years), our retirement account was BK (also thanks to the massive early-withdrawal penalties and added taxes). We're past the mark where we were, but it's been a hard climb. Worse still because it all happened as we were nearing retirement. It's extended our stay in the work place by a few years, but the house is paid off, no credit card bills, and no vehicle payments. We've maintained our home, but it does need new flooring and updated countertops. That can be the new buyers' problem when we retire in 2 more years. Bye bye California, hello anywhere else!

Replacing some guttering along the back of the house that bent in a storm. Not enough to meet the deductible for homeowner's insurance.

We would, however we have been on one income for three years now and my husband needed a new truck two years ago.

This is the first time in a decade that we're getting a Federal refund. Normally, we get about $100 from the state and let them keep it for next year. We've already spent the $900 we're getting back this year in our basement project. After 13 years we decided to do something with our concrete box in the ground and put in a bar then make my gym area more comfortable. It will barely make a dent, but, it's a start.
