plants do not carry little chisels or drills.. they do not break into otherwise intact utility lines.. such as water.. gas .. electric.. foundations ....etc ..

but they can take advantage of pre existing conditions.. such as a sewer line that is already broken ... seeking water and fert.. if you get my drift ...

so imo ... you have no issue ... unless you simply have nothing else to worry about ... or want exercise ....

also.. this is a shrub willow.. not some 100 foot whompin willow ... think scale here ...this shrub is pretty tiny.. all and all ...

and to be clear.. im not talking about a septic leech field ...

The roots seek water and can not penetrate sealed systems. Propane is not water and it is in a sealed system.

Water supply lines are also sealed systems so roots won't cause issues there either. They do cause issues in septic systems (& old sewer lines) because those systems are not sealed and the roots get in.

I'm sure there are standards on how close to the line you should plant a large tree to avoid physical damage to the propane line (eg. uprooted tree) and if not "call before you dig", at least be sure what the exact location of the line is (b/c I don't imagine it's very deep).

Thanks smivies. Yes, I think my main concern is that the roots would somehow grow around and disturb/move the line. I will probably give the propane company a call to see how deep the line is.

Roots disturbing or moving the propane line is probably not an issue with a shrub (<20' tall) but becoming more so the larger a tree is.

Agree w/smivies -- a pussy willow isn't a weeping willow. Shouldn't be an issue....

A plant isn't going to attempt to drink propane. I'm pretty sure it's not having thoughts of suicide.
