I'm in my second year of gardening and I'm trying to determine the best place to put the bulk of my plants. Previously I grew a palmful of peppers, but I'm trying to branch out into more traditional summer vegetables with a larger variety of peppers, some tomatoes and a few others but I've found difficulty figuring which area gets more sun, silly as that may sound.

I've done a solar survey, but for a number of factors I don't have access to full sun. The two sunniest areas I have access to both get less than full sun, but while one gets 6 hrs:4.5-5 hrs full midday sun, 1-1.5 hrs partial sun, and full shade from the house and a large hedge otherwise, the other gets only 2 hours full sun from 10-12 and a few 20-30 minute periods but gets over 6 hours of part sun to part shade, for a total of 9.5 hrs.

Not only is there a clear discrepancy between hours and intensities of sunlight, but being on the Southeast coast the plants may well appreciate the shade during the heat of the summer. Ultimately the question is a pinch more nebulous than I can answer with my limited experience. Needing to support two of the tomatoes I've opted to have half of them in each area, but everything's in containers so the rest can be relocated as needed.
