This one doesn't have a lid, but since it's a custom design, there's always the option of choosing a bin with a lid that sets into the top, as long as that bin has a lip along the top. To answer your question thought, it's a small enough container that it's emptied/rinsed regularly and doesn't have time to stink things up. If it were an issue, I'd recommend adding a horizontal seal along the back of the drawer face.
