I wouldn't mix and if you lean toward the white I'd go with more linen as white will show everything.

Take a look at this before and after. The windows are very similar to your home and linen was used. naturally, they do have linen or linen type fabric that is a bit lighter.

It's tough with a sectional if the room is not large which I can't see fully. I would definitely move the TV from in front of the window if you can. However, I can't see the room for an alternative. The couch without seeing it would look much better placed with the back of the long portion against the wall and the chaise portion down the wall of the window facing the fireplace. Then angle the chair a bit and put the floor light between the end of the sectional and the chair. Do you use the tiny table? If not I'd relocate it and get a small scale coffee table that's not heavy looking so you can put glasses and snacks or what have you on. The floor is lovely. If you can take a shot of the whole room it might help to see where you might even mount the TV on a swivel to a wall. We have a tv that size in the basement and it's on the wall and can pivot a bit left or right. It's a pretty room I just can't see it all.

I would definitely not mix window treatments! I would go with the suggestions provided from the people above me.

Hi! I am in need of help with a floor plan disgn for the awkward layout of my living room. I have thought a lot about either eliminating the fireplace or building it out. I hate the dated look it has. We live in CA so rarely use the fireplace but a fireplace does add a nice visual.

Ideally I would love the tv above the fireplace and to include built ins for storage which I desperately need as you can tell by the overload of toys in the photos. I have two kids and two dogs.

We have a 60 inch TV so even if we built out the fireplace as is, it would barely be large enough for our tv and we feel it may really close off the space?

Also the way the walls are and the openness of the layout has me troubled with where to put furniture to face the tv etc. I actually hate the tv in front of the window but feel at this point the position of our tv and couch is the only logical option for it??

I would love any input and ideas for what would help with flow and layout and possibilities of including builtins/storage etc. We are open to investing money but would want to consider the most budget friendly option.

about the only thing you could do switch your sectional and chair so the couch is on the stair wall with sectional and the chair flanks the fireplace. I think that would look better. Or you could buy a smaller couch and another chair...

Rachel has a good point now seeing the other photo. Since it's not a lot of furniture can you just move the sofa to the stair wall to see how it fits and looks and post from a distance a photo of the sofa and take a photo in the opposite direction of you sitting on the couch. I know it's awkward as the tv is large and you need to be able to sit and look at it. Don't put it above the fireplace as you mentioned as a thought only because you would as you said close the room down.

You might be able to do what you said (couch on stair wall and TV between two windows) but it seems like it would be tight...your TV is huge. What about couch on stair wall, chair near fireplace, TV where loveseat is and loveseat in front of the window by the front door? Pictures from farther away would definitely help.

Melia, put the couch over by the stairs as discussed 9 hrs ago when you can and post it. I'll be out all day tomorrow yet will check it tomorrow night. Agree with the TV between the windows as Rachel mentioned yet think it's too large....?

Will do Porter. The rocking chair is temporary. We plan to move it and get other furniture.

Certainly Melia... I think for now the most important thing is the sectional and the TV as the sectional/TV is an expense purchase. The sectional look very nice. As for the other chairs and so on if you plan to get a new chair or two first need to get the couch and TV where it works then work with adding a chair or two, etc. I know you have kids and animals and life is busy. Would love to see the couch on that wall and lastly would the TV fit between the two windows?

What is your thought about the fireplace? Build it our or remove it all together?

I wouldn't build out the fireplace such as to put the TV on it. It would close down the smaller space so much. Not knowing if you live in Arizona or New Hampshire it depends on how much you love/use a fireplace. Taking one away can be a big job if it's not a, "wood burning" such as the free standing as the chimney and such and what is behind that area going up from the top of the fireplace may be brick behind it and ...... not sure too if it is part structural. You could have somebody come in and take a look and get an estimate if it could be done and what it would entail if you don't use it. I use my fireplace many, many days during the winter as it's very cold where I live at times. I'd just take in to consideration how much you use it if at all.

Great.... send a photo of the couch when you can move it with some help. The TV may be the only option to mount between the two windows as in front of that window it is not good! Once you have shades up it will look less spare too even with the TV... it seems like the only option for viewing other than where you have it unless you remove the fireplace which?? You might want a professional in this area advice if you really don't use it and removing it and if it is easy or structural or.....
