what is the purpose of the utility room? do you have something you envision for it?

Hi Rachel, would need the utility for drying laundry, washing machine, boiler and pet supplies.

So it is important! If you moved it to the front does that mean you would eliminate some of the entry (labeled "hall") I am assuming that is the main entry? It seems like it is in the best place now. I think the layout looks really well planned, so much better than some I have seen on here! I am looking at it from the point of an experienced homeowner though, not a designer/architect stand point, but I like it!

At the moment we have a garage at the side of the house. We would extend wide meaning we get the utility and extra kitchen space is gained. Also pushed out at the back. The concern is the waste of space to the front which could fit the utility room ( beside the downstairs toilet - left on drawings) where the table is you can see the old corners of the house. Unsure whether to add a beam to square off losing this wall, and move the utility to the front to use the space and get the more out of the house. Very hard to know. It is a good plan but a difficult decision to get right. Hope that makes sense
