No stain, just clear coat or anything in the light-to-medium stain are the current trends. Espresso and other dark stains are not "on trend" right now but it's your house so you should do what you really love. The darker the floor, the more dust, hair, crumbs, and foodprints will show bug some people still love dark floors.

That floor is gorgeous. If this was my house, it would be an easy decision -- no stain, just poly. But it is your house and your money -- go with the stain you like!

That is a MAGNIFICENT floor you have! Don't do ANYTHING! People pay an arm and a leg for that type of flooring (I know it is raw)! Honestly. The floor you HAVE is right on TREND! In fact it is so HOT that you will be "on trend" for another 10 years! And then another 10 years after that you will have a "contemporary" floor rather than a "trendy" floor. By that time, it needs a full sand and refinish. Congratulations! You just WON the "floor colour sweepstakes"!

Espresso is already "So 2012"...which means an espresso floor will be dated before you put down the stain.

I would love to see an oil modified (I hate oil based...but it will look good in this situation) 2 part EXPENSIVE polyurethane on here. The oil will cause a little bit of ambering that will DEEPEN the browns in your floor = mid-tone = ON TREND!

See how easy that was! Stain = Nothing. Finish = 2 part Oil Modified HIGH END polyurethane = DONE.

Magnificent floor! It really, really is a special product. Don't stain it. It is the show piece of your home. Whomsoever chose that floor = GOOD CHOICE!
