Kusaie lime tree not growing

Hello,

hope someone can help me with this. I bought a Kusaie lime tree 2 years ago and planted in my east facing garden near some dianthus. I think it was on flying dragon root stock. The tree initially had lots of flowers and fruits which I removed in an effort to let the tree get established.

But the problem is that the tree has hardly had any growth in the last two years. There is no change in height or thickness and the root ball is more or less same size (observed when I recently removed the dianthus). Moreover last year it had some yellowing of leaves which I corrected with magnesium sulphate, but since then there hasn't been a single flower on the tree.

I am in New Zealand (zone11) and apply citrus fertiliser and seaweed fertiliser regularly. The tree receives full sun for at least 6-7 hrs daily. Any suggestions what I could do here?

It sounds like you are doing all the right things; only patience will help. Flying dragon is a very slow growing rootstock.

Thanks for your reply John. I am so frustrated with it. Thinking of transferring to a pot and getting a different tree for my garden

I have a Cara Cara on the same rootstock. This one has had limited growth over the last 4 years. I can say that doubling the fertilizer and water helped greatly; with a major growth spurt in process now.

You said you removed another plant from near the rootball. Are you sure that you are providing enough N for growth... and enough N such that the neighboring plants are not sucking it out of the soil before the citrus? I found I needed to double the amounts suggested on the package (I use Ammonium sulfate) before it greened up and got growing!

Indeed as John said, ....patience (and more food) will help. Good luck and update us in a few months....
