Just finished fire pit - Now what?

Hey all! I just finished building this fire pit and intended on putting sod in the surrounding area. Unfortunately, this area receives only about an hour and a half of direct sunlight a day so it is starting to seem like sod is not an option. What else could be done here to make the area feel more complete?
