It is one of those geraniums which extend outwards from new leaf nodes - like psilostemon or wallichianum, rather than manitaining a clump form such as sanguineum...but given a chance, it will scramble upwards through surrounding taller plants, popping up, seemingly at random between close growing perennials and shrubs. Not really suited as a specimen plant - but looking good in a 'wild' or informal garden.

gardengal, noo! It's a spot I've hard trouble getting anything to bloom, (dry and in the bright shade of a huge oak) and this one seems to be settling down happily. Oh dear, am I going to regret inviting this one to take up residence?

No, the seedlings are immediately recognisable and can be levered out of the soil with minimum fuss.

I have been looking at a US native - the little pink claytonia as a shade bloomer...and epimediums have always been my go-to plants for dry shade under trees. Mannerly too.
