Small Raspberry Canes

I am zone 4 and have Killarney raspberries. I have taken very good care of them and incorporated manure through tilling prior to planting 3 years ago. For whatever reason, the canes do not get much above waist level. The diameter are not very impressive either, the biggest are around 1/2 -3/8 inch at base and waist high. I make sure to prune to about 5 canes per row. The canes have full sunlight, but do tend to get some gusty winds as we are up on a hill.
Is this a normal size for my zone and variety? I went to a u pick place last year and they had boyne raspberries that were atleast 5 foot. Mine do not get anywhere near that close. I would really like more production out of mine and I did put in a row of boyne last year and those came a little bigger from first year shoots.
I am just not sure why my plants are smaller than most I have seen with all the attention I give them. Any suggestions?
