A couple of their references have already been debunksd ... the supposed loss of varieties, for example. The article they cite compared named varieties in seed catalogs from 1903 with the well-identified germplasm varieties in one seed bank.

If you use catalogs from 1903 and compare to modern catalogs, the horrifying loss vanishes ...

The "Suicide belt" in India has been similarly debunked.

Another nit. In the title, is it ''Seeds'' or Seed"?

I liked the expose nature of some of the content... the school and law suit in Hawaii for example... but especially at the start, I too saw a lot of - what I can only, at best, politely characterize as - hyperbole.

I also appreciated the small section on GMO's, but it was scant, and not at all thorough. Unfortunately, it was no more than what everyone already knows.

CIMMYT, the big wheat and corn research center based in Sonora Mexico, pays farmers to keep growing some heirloom seeds ... they usually pay them the difference between what the low-yielding crop brings at market and what a higher-producing modern variety would bring. Sometimes they contract with them to grow out some samples to increase the quantity for research or to send to other seed banks.
