Spring clean up

I cut back last years dead growth in the spring for most of my perennials to protect the crowns in the winter. But for the life of me I can't remember if I cut the old leaves off my heuchera or leave them and they come back to life. I am starting to see new growth from the crowns and I'm in zone 4b if that helps.

I've cut all the leaves before. I've also just cut the ragged ones. This year I just left them alone. All those methods seem to work fine.

I second this. I just cut off the dead or ugly ones.

I have a difficult time with survival so I leave them be. If it is not brown it stays. If it can give the plant a little strength if the leaf is not dead I do not remove. Leaves feed the plant if it is not dead.
