Any leaves on the "hairy" vines yet? Could be trumpet vine, but could also be the dreaded poison ivy. Just be VERY careful pulling it down - wear gloves, long sleeves, and protective eyewear and dispose of in heavy trash bags. DO NOT compost and DO NOT BURN - just in case it is poison ivy.

I pulled all of them down a few weeks ago, and they left some pretty ugly looking tracks up the trunk. They were leafy, beginning about 20 feet up the trunk but grew in sets of 5 like the creeper so I didn't think much of it. Besides getting a large black tick in my hip, I had no incidents or reactions. Out of curiosity though, why not to burn? (I did....)

Glad it wasn't poison ivy! And you're right, 5 leaflets were fine (but "leaves of 3, let it be!!"). And the oils in poison ivy become airborne when burned - leading to HUGE problems if you or anyone nearby is allergic to it!! Imagine if you/they inhaled it! Or it blew into your eyes! Definitely a trip to the ER! Thankfully I'm not allergic to it (but I can identify it anyway - and it comes in both bush and creeping or climbing forms!). Nasty stuff! And my dear hubby is pretty allergic to it, but couldn't pick it out of a line-up of 3 plants even if the other two were Magnolia grandiflora and Sum and Substance Hosta! (I was a girl scout until high school, but he was a jock and was never into scouting or the outdoors.). Happy gardening!

not poison ivy but might be poison oak. don't know it as well since I'm not allergic to it but that looks like it.
