Are you wanting to keep the drapes? I like the idea of painting the room white.

Hi, i don't want to keep them, I personally don't like this colour, also there are lot of trees, I was thinking something more light. But I want to start with the walls, after bring the furniture and get all the other things.

Is this your living room or family room or both? Once I know how the room will function I will weigh in.

personally, I would find the furnishings for the room and then pick the paint colors. if really hate the color, go ahead and paint it all white so that you do not have to look at it.

I see an issue with the demarcation lines created by the lower crown molding that does not extend to the fireplace. as it is now, the dark color extends to the soffit/tray since the molding does not create a natural stop.

I would consider extendin the molding over to the fireplace on both sides to create a line to end the paint color on the wall so that it does not extend to the soffit/tray.

then, I would use three shades of a color that you like. I would use the darkest shade on on the walls, the middle shade on the soffit, and the lightest on the ceiling.

if you opt not to extend the moulding, then I'd paint the walls and soffit one color and the ceiling the ceiling three shades lighter. in essence, the color scheme would be the same as the one above without the middle shade for the soffit.

I have to say that I'm not a fan of the color scheme.

I can't really tell much about the finishes and colors on the fireplace surround, mantel, and hearth. it appears that the current room colors take their cue from the fireplace.

I would not put a TV above the fireplace unless you have no other place for it. if it has to go above the fireplace, then I would investigate a bracket that will hold and tilt the TV so that its placement does not hurt your neck to watch. if the flat screen TV is mounted flat on a wall, the bottom of the TV should be about 30" or less from the floor.

another issue of placing the TV above the fireplace is that the width of the TV is limited by the width of your fireplace. if the fireplace is a functional fireplace, then the TV needs to be inset so that is shielded from the heat of fireplace.

if the main purpose for the room is to watch TV, then furniture and its placement needs to be considered in your process.

Well, we first thought this would be a good place for a tv, but we want to take all the advantages of the room and fireplace. So tv can go to another room. The idea will be to have a living room. I like the idea to have 2 colours. I attached the sofas (pics)we want to use for this rooms, we need to buy side tables, lamps, carpets, curtains etc.

Two tone whites is my vote. White for moldings and trim on fireplace. Warmer white for walls.

The lighting & molding on fireplace is very traditional but you don't have to have everything match.

I like the black sofas & you could add 2 accent chairs.

I like the idea of going with gold tones with your light & white walls with black furniture.

Side table idea.

Accent pillows for black couches.

If you're going to remove the heavy drapery, I would suggest you pick your color after that is done. The light in the room will change significantly. I believe I would look for a warmer white based on the tones in the fireplace. I would wait to choose accessory furnishings until you have moved in and decided on a furniture arrangement for the room.

Carpet ideas that would look beautiful with my above options.

Changing the color of the room might be a really nice idea. You could add in some accent pieces to compliment your black furniture and create a wonderful space. See what we did in a clients estate below?

What do you think about having an ottoman? If YES would the ottoman has to match with the chairs?? Adding plant or flowers?? I never know what to buy.

I love having fun with ottomons. They definitely don't have to match. I LOVE plants. I'm not a fan of fake flowers.

An ottoman is a good idea. I would wait until you find your area rug and work from there. It will give you a color palette from which to work and choose other pieces so that everything coordinates.

I really like that you removed the drapes and painted the walls and ceiling. I especially like that you repositioned the sofas on either side of the fireplace. Did you try the ottoman between the sofas in front of the fireplace?

I put curtains...and it seems too many of them. Probably blinds will be better. Or curtains are the same color as walls. I will try beige ones or neutral ones.

May be curtains from sides only

I like gray monochromatic better.
