I definitely agree. That slab is quartzite or marble and anyone telling me that it's granite I would be suspicions of. If it's quartzite and does not etch easily it could be acceptable to you. But I would go back to the first place and look at their quartzite. When people just tell you what you want to hear it's time to stop listening.

If the supplier that has that doesn't know or you don't trust what they are telling you I wouldn't do business with them .

Thank you everyone. My suspicion is that this is marble or Quartzite not granite. Is specially since I was at that granite yard and the people there told me that you really can't get that marble look on white granite. I don't think I'm willing to take the risk on it.

I blush to admit that I looked at 1,000 slabs and everything was too patterned and random for me, so I ended up with quartz. Loved them.

I have never felt like this before where I am nervous to purchase something so expensive and I am afraid somebody's going to sell me something that it's not ugh!

Have you read any reviews of the company? Some distributors just want to sell the product and then they leave the problems for the fabricators to deal with.

Lynne, don't blush.i totally get it. I have looked at thousand granite slabs as well. And have thought about going to quartz as well because that's the look that I like. I'm just such an avid cook and I have granite now and I know it. Everyone tells me quartz is amazing but I'm just afraid if I put a hot pot on it it is going to burn and discolor . I don't make a practice of doing it but I do occasionally put a cookie sheet or a pot on my granite and it is still perfect after 10 years .

Presidio , they are reputable company I was there and I also have their website. Very professional and everything is in check. There is nothing to indicate to me that they are not reputable. That is what is so frustrating. When I went with my granite guy to the place in Nashville with the thousand slabs he didn't even know that half of them were marble. He had to ask the lady that actually worked at the granite yard and then she discussed it with me. That is why am so frustrated because it seems like even when they think it is a certain product it is not

Go with a quartz countertop like Silestone or Caesarstone. You'll get the wear and performance you need and the look you want. Look at the Caesarstone London Grey or Misty Carerra. It's a subtle veined pattern with depth to it. You won't get that kind of a fine grain look in granite.

It is listed as marble by the warehouse in our area. They tend to be pretty good at fairly classifying stones.

I think I better stay clear of this stuff. I have to tell you I absolutely love it though. Like really love it.

You won't find a granite that even comes close to this look. Quartz or Quartzite will be your best bet. Personally, I would do real marble in my house, and I would let it get thrashed. I like the look of marble, even after it's weathered.

I love the look. I just love the durability of granite and it is for Milyer to me. Just so afraid to get quarts and then have it get burned or discolored ! But if I ever decide to redo my bathrooms the slab would be perfect

Quartzite's are durable as well, but have the smooth sweeping movement of marble. Stay away from Super white though. It's usually classified as Quartzite but really it's dolomite (closer to marble).

Have you actually experienced living with marble? If not, I'd suggest going to a local box store and buying a couple of tiles. Lay them out on your counters an live life for a week or two. You will either reconfirm that patina drives you crazy, or you might find yourself surprisingly unbothered by it. But, you will know for sure if you need to rule out some of your loves based on label alone.

There is no other way to say this, you are completely wrong. The resin in engineered stone is very heat sensitive relatively speaking. Under no circumstances should hot pans be set directly on estone, natural stone, or solid surface like Corian. This is according to the Marble Institute of America and estone and solid surface manufacturers. If I can burn the resin in quartz with a diamond pad on a Mikita in seconds, imagine what a hot pan will do.

Furthermore, I can repair scorched Corian inconspicuously. Not so with stone or estone, depending on severity. The heat pops the color out of the crystals. The crystals can be Dremeled and replaced, depending on color and particulate. Estone with "movement"? You're dead.

The melting temperature for the resin in quartz tops is just above 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The only solid surface you should ever be putting really hot pots and pans on is soapstone.

When you do consider a kitchen remodel, go outside the box and skip the granite. Beautiful yes, maintenance free, no. Get that glamorous look without the downside of granite's upkeep.

Quartz resin edge burned by an installer with diamond pads on a knuckle dragger in Tampa's IKEA store display. No where near 400 degrees.

The MIA makes no exception for trivet use on soapstone.

Sintered tops, Neolith, Dekton, etc., are exempted from trivet use by the manufacturer. Geoluxe has no resin and is heat resistant.

I have granite now for the past 10 years and have not had to upkeep anything on it yes it is a darker granite but I have put a hot pot or pan occasionally on it with no problem. Have sealed it maybe three times in the past 10 years and it still looks beautiful. I guess that's why I want to stick with granite. It is natural and it is familiar to me.

So Joseph - I completely bow to your expertise wrt repairs. I called out Silestone only because it has one of the highest temperature tolerance ratings among aggregate+resin surfaces. Does that mean that it is impossible to scorch it? Nope.

Joseph - Also, friction generates LOTS of heat -- probably more than you think -- easily hundreds of degrees in flash heating. My nephew got a blistering burn from a 3" screw that missed a joist when we were fastening down plywood underlayment. The screwdriver wasn't particularly fast, but the heat generated by the simple action of screwing it in, then reversing the screw out was enough to scorch flesh.

I would not do business with the place that insists it is granite, regardless of their reputation and website. That's a red flag if I ever saw one.

I don't know of anyone who puts hot pots on laminate countertops but everyone always asks that question about stone and quartz. You should not buy countertops with the mind of treating them like you'd never treat laminate. Stone countertops cost thousands of dollars. Always use a hot pad!

This slab looks like Bardiglio Marble

I ended up with an arctic white granite.. and made sure it was granite. The guy at the granite yard knew exactly what he was talking about so we shall see, being installed tomorrow!! Not the exact marble look i wanted but hoping it looks nice in my new kitchen. Thanks everyone!!

And honestly it looks way deeper than it is it only comes out 15 inches I just looked at the picture and it looks like I have 3 feet of overhang. It's only 15 inches for seating. LOL

Looks similar to Wiscont White Granite.

It is similar with just a hint of brown to go with the gray and brown flooring. It's really nice!!

YOUR KITCHEN LOOKS VERY NICE. WHAT YOU HAVE ON THAT FIRST PICTURE IS DEINITELY A MARBLE, LOOKS LIKE AN ALPINA, BUT I COULD BE WRONG, ITS HARD TO TELL FROM A PHOTO. WHITE IS MOSTLY FOUND IN SOME QUARTZITES, MARBLES AND QUARTZ OF COURSE. GRANITE IS VERY HARD TO FIND IN WHITE, BUT THERE YOU GOT A VERY NICE MATERIAL. YOUR KITCHEN IS LOOKING AMAZING!
