Fig tree alive, but still hasn't started leafing out

hello!

My container fig tree is only in its second year, so this is my first time bringing it back from winter dormancy (i stored it in my shed over the winter). We had warm weather early in february, and it showed signs of budding and springing to life. but we got late season freezes, during which i brought it inside to protect it. But the leaf buds it has no longer look alive, and it has not developed any sort of growth or signs of life. I nicked the bark on the trunk, and its green inside. And I accidentally broke a small branch while transplanting it into a larger container, and the inside of the branch was definitely alive. But it hasn't done anything at all! No leaves, no growth, nothing. Should I do something for it? We're well into our spring weather here (zone 6b, southern Ohio) and i really expected something from it by now

If mine i would just leave it in the sun, there is really nothing that can be done .Its a waiting game and sounds like the frost has what we call "set it back".

It's been shocked. If the limbs are green when nicked, it is alive. Keep it outside in as warm and sun drenched a spot that you have, and be patient. Any prediction of a possible frost and bring it inside, ASAP. You can get a freeze all the way to Memorial Day.

Fig trees are very resilient though.

The advanced buds probably got frozen. It only takes a short period of time at 32 degrees F. or colder to zap them dead. The more dormant buds should kick in very nicely, give it time. When it kicks in it will surprise you and take off.

I have two two-year old fig trees. I bring them in for winter. One broke dormancy the end of February. The other just broke dormancy this week after having buds since February. I did move the one that didn't bud next to the one that did about a month back. I also started giving it small doses of plant food.

So, try moving it to a sunnier, warmer spot and give it some plant food.
