Where does Miracle-Gro® soil come from?

Where does Miracle-Gro® All Purpose Garden Soil soil come from? Does this product at your local nursery in suburban New Jersey come from the same place as that from Walmart in Winnemucca, NV?

He does seem to have a problem with Miracle-Gro at least.

They use various composts, peat, shredded bark etc. in their various mixes. And a sprinkle of fertilizer. MG's website says the NPK for the Garden Soil is 0.09 - 0.05 - 0.07. So it sounds like precious little fertilizer at that.

I'm no fan of the stuff (as I've said many times) but saying it's chemically 'manufactured' is over the top. It's organic matter with a teaspoon of fertilizer.

The label says the composition in California differs from that in Texas and Idaho. Says that the composition is "one or more of the following", which means that they can change the recipe in a structured way. But it has a "guaranteed analysis", so at least with regard to NPK, it's all pretty much equivalent.

My milk and butter come from a different place than your milk and butter, but I'm not sure the nutrients differ significantly. I'm not concerned about where they came from.

It is sourced from a number of places around the country. In fact, on their website it says:

"And did you know that much of our product is locally made? The average journey from plant to store is about a two-hour drive."

They may have their own plants, or they contract with regional producers and provide a recipe they have to use.

Your compost pile is a chemical manufacturing facility. Compounds being manufactured apace there. Hope your bacteria are given good benefits and vacation time.

The purpose of a compost pile, for the plants it will be used on, is making ammonia, hydrocarbons, nitrates and nitrites. You get carbon and carbon dioxide in the process. It's about breaking down vegetative matter into chemically useful compounds. Nothing biological that it's making is of any use to plants.

A compost pile not only accomplishes this chemical compound manufacturing, but also breeds more workers. I guess they're all given gimme caps and uniforms with logos.

The quality of Miracle-Gro Garden "Soil" is quite poor; seems to be mostly low quality mulch. The bags are improperly labelled as "Soil" when at best they contain soil enhancers (questionable, that). When I called Miracle-Gro customer service, here's what they had to say:

" We are sorry to hear of your disappointment with our Miracle-Gro All Purpose Garden Soil. Most of our soils are made of composted forest products and contain very little, if any, actual soil. "

How do they get away with selling something that is not what's on the product's label? Isn't that against the law?
