Does this look right??? Just passed county inspection :(

Sorry to pile it on, but I also really hate the way the light on the left hand side of the door is farther away from the doorframe than the one on the right. They were obviously trying to center the right hand light in the limited wall space on that side, but the distance should have been the same on the left, imho.

i do think the step would be a lot less obtrusive in concrete or whatever material matches the porch floor.

It might be legal in the eyes of the county, but it's a tripping hazard and unattractive

If the IRC is the building code and this is a required exit door (or the inspector decides it is) there must be a landing 3' deep x width of door no more than 7.75" below the threshold.

There's not enough information to say if it's a code violation but its definitely a dumb idea.

Once you've baked in such an error (incorrectly calculating bottom of door opening to porch) there's no easy remedy.

No, that doesn't look right, but fixing it would be very expensive.

Our local building inspector warned us of this very issue, he said with the trusses getting larger, builders/concrete contractors need to make sure that they're pouring the stoop thick enough so there's no more than the maximum height from the stoop to the bottom of the floor. If you don't, you're forced to add an additional step, we have two here in town that needed to put the cement step on top of the stoop in order to meet code. I have a pic of the one home with the added cement step on the porch, if you'd like to see a picture just message me and I'll send it over.

If it is an exit door the step should be a landing. I would install a raised deck above the concrete porch level with the threshold. Perhaps the decking could be removable in panels.

What did the contract drawings show?
