You are welcome. Please remember that there are many ways to grow orchids successfully. The way we grow it works for me and now you. potting with lava rock in clay pots allows me to water frequently like the plants in nature may get. I know that the orchids need to dry out and the lave rock gives me the chance to fully hydrate the plants. In the past I used a mix of fir bark, charcoal and pearlite. It worked fine. Until the bark started to break down. There comes a point in time that it becomes mandatory to repot. The roots need air and that goes away. At that time in short order, a month or 2, the plants starts to die. And sometimes I'd miss that date and lose the plant.

Lava rock does not lose the air spaces. Oli, you might consider using Orchid Plus fertilizer because it has no urea. Something that can build up and cause problems. So far Orchid Plus has been good.

For many people this set up of lava rocks and clay pots will fail. One needs time and inclination to give them water every day. Many people do not have the time. So this is not for everybody.
