Where are you? Sun intensity varies a lot with latitude.

I've only seen the Chinese species and one of its hybrids adversely affected around here. Although this is a cool and dull area.

Good pooint, NHBabs. I'm in the Boston suburbs, zone 6a or 6b, hard to tell which these days.

in summer.. its light out until near 10 oclock ... which would put you closer to the perfect 8 hours, which is considered full sun ..

being a mostly green shrub ... i would say go for it .. not much simply dies due to lesser light .... i say go for it ...

though a flowering shrub.. its not one that has the big foo foo flowers that might need the extra light for big flower production ....

While this is a shrub that prefers partial shade - it is a native woodland understory plant - it can also be grown in full sun, provided other conditions (sufficient water) are met. It will tend to extend more or become somewhat leggy in more sun than shade. Also, intense sun may cause the flowers to fade or go over faster.

One of mine is to the northwest of a dying maple, so it may be in full sun at this point. It doesn't seem to mind.
