You'll need to do more than just cut the Mulberry, or it will regrow. You can paint the cut ends with herbicide or cut repeatedly the moment you see any green buds.

The common name is Trilium. It blooms in early spring. You can plant annuals or later growing perennials around it.

Trillium is a generic name and it's not what this is.

Trillium blooms have 3 petals (as the "tri" at the beginning of the word indicates.) No species of Trillium is tall enough to grow up/on a fence, AFAIK. Never seen any reference to any Trillium in any location being referred to as a weed.

Trillium is a genus name, a proper botanical epithet with species included. Each species has a specific common name, though I usually see them referred to by the genus name, Trillium.

Trillium grandiflorum is native here as are others. I grow T. luteum and erectum in the garden.

It is illegal to disturb Trilliums in some locations in the US. Forgot to add that yesterday.
