How would you layout this living room?

Struggling with my living room(s) with way too many doors and windows. Large radiators in front of the windows. Woodburning stove. Off center windows. Wall to wall carpeting. And a husband who is married to his comfy chair in front of the tv. ONLY thinks in function and comfort and not at all in looks. Which is why he loves me, I guess ;-) What we need is a place to watch tv, seating at least 4 people comfortably. A workspace table used for office, games, crafts and homework. Several bookcases and also some out of sight storage for office supplies. What would you do?

The door in the top leads to our kitchen/dining room. To the left is our bedroom and to the right a music room (hubby is a musician). Windows in the small room are floor to ceiling sliding glass door with a low floor radiator in front. Other windows are normal sized with large radiators in front.

Dividing the two rooms are french doors with a tall window on either side.

Please help me.

As of now we have this - quite functional but definately not pretty. Until recently we had the work table in the smaller room, but we use it more this way. Now we just never use the small room, which is a shame.

That is one challenging plan for sure! Are you renting or do you own it? Is there any flexibility with door placement?

We own it. But the doors can not be moved. We already blinded one door that was between the kitchen and the stove.

I would swap the rooms like this....if your chairs swivel that would be best. Good luck!

I would use the smaller room for your tv room, with the tv on the bottom wall in your original post. Center your smaller couch across from (pretty much right where it is now), take out the long shallow pieces (bookshelves?), and tuck your husband's comfy chair to the sofa's left. Add a couple of poufs or floor cushions--kids love lounging on the floor for movies, just be sure the tv iant mounted too high.

Leave the workspace where you have it, adding some sort of closed storage on the wall next to the door.

The other end of the room can be a library area with bookshelves on the walls that form the corners (where the tv was and near the French doors.) with two cozy chairs in front of them, centered on the wall. One will be in front of the window. Alternatively you could use your longer sofa.

Next I would tuck a chair into the corner formed between the right side of the woodstove and the wall. That would be my Place and I would call it an inglenook :-D

Delineate all the seating areas I mentioned with their own rugs, large enough for the chairs to be completely on the rug.

PS I like the work area near the kitchen so a parent can help with homework while cooking, and I like the tv out of the work zone to minimize distractions.
