Steely Grey for living room, too dark?

So we have opened up our Victorian San Francisco house and time has come for colors.
We like the idea of a grey walls, we can probably go darker as the ceiling is curved down to picture rail and will all be white, then similar story at the bottom with paneling. This leaves about 70% of the wall will be painted in the grey.
Has anyone used Steely Grey as their main color?
