where to plant clematis

i have a clematis that was intended to go on a east wall but thoses plans changed. thiking about putting in a spot that is shade till about 1030 am then full sun till 7 pm this is in oklahoma will it tolerate the heat of july aug?? i have seen many that bdo well on east sides of houses that starting getting shade around 1 pm so not shur . also does a clematis need to be against something or can the trellis be out in the open????
