Where in the world are you? Some insects are more common in some places than others and many just do not appear in some places.

If in the USA take a sample of the insects to your local state universities Cooperative Extension Service office where they would be better able to see what you have. I can see the insect and I can enlarge it some but not enough to see it well enough to identify it.

Bella, can't see the individual critters well enough to determine if they are mites or insects. What kind of mites are you hoping for?? Need an explanation of that.

What are they doing other than being on the pot?

They were mostly just around the inside of the lip of the pot but some were on the dirt just crawling around, i dont remember any really burrowing or anything but there were and are gnats around because of a bad bag of soil.. I just checked and they're all over the soil as well but i cant really see them doing anything significant? There's a sprout that popped up today though and it looks healthy and bright green so i dont think the roots are being attacked but against the soil they look more grey/tan but against everything else orange.. Oh! And im in the Center of California, Visalia
