how to select for best next generations?

I have a bean that I grow....it usually throws 4 seeds to a pod...sometimes it throws 5 seeds. I am saving seeds that throw 5 seeds to a pod...and recently, I was told I was doing this backwards...I was told that I should select seed that throws the largest seed first...now I'm confused???

I think....(and I admit that I'm not all educated on genetics..!)...that I need to select for the seed that throws the 5 pods first...then after that I can select for pods that throw big size..from what I grow now...the difference in size is minimal, ..i would like to get a stable seed that throws 5 seeds per pod, then after that, I can select for size...

I was told that I need to select for size first, then I will get some random 5 seeded pods and can select from there???

Does anyone know how genetics works enough to lean me in the right direction?

I just don't see enough of a difference in size between the 4 and 5 pods to select for size...
