One mostly overlooked tree that can be included in you edible landscape is the Pawpaw. Of course in order to get fruit you must plant two varieties to allow cross pollination. You can get fruit in about 5 years and it tastes like a mixture of banana ice cream, pineapple and mango. The fruit is a light green color and can be from 6 to 16 ounces in size. The tree is small, from 10-20 feet and grows slowly. The leaves are large, as long as six inches, and in the fall are a beautiful yellow. I have two varieties, the Shenandoah and the Susquehanna. My tree is about 7 years old, four feet high and I should get my first fruit this year.
