Water rooting

How long can water-rooted cuttings stay in water before being planted out?

My kerrii, australis, cummingiana and meliflua have all sent out roots (special mention to cummingiana which has also sent feathery roots out into the air). I would normally pot them up and put them outside under the patio, but the winter rains are coming. Can they overwinter in water or should I just pot them and do my best to keep them warm and dry (ish).

I'd personally pot them up and keep warm, watering when needed. Water roots have a different structure than terrestrial roots (which also have a different structure than epiphytic/aerial roots).

I don't water root (bad luck with it), but I would hypothesize that the longer you wait to transplant, the more stress you might put on the plant. I have no idea, though.

You could try semi-hydro, though...hybrid water/terrestrial...lol. Just add LECA
