A standard door makes more sense in this application vs a pocket or barn door. I'm not sure how you would be able to install a pocket door without creating some sort of landing/hallway, which would take up valuable bedroom space.

Also keep in mind a barn door is not the best at controlling noise when shut.

It sounds like this (photo below) is exactly what you have in mind. But there are three things in your floorplan that may keep you from doing this successfully.

1) Your top step looks like it enters too far into the room.

2) Your handrail looks like it enters too far into the room.

3) the closet wall where the sliding door would rest when open does not look wide enough. It needs to accommodate the full width of the door itself.

Aside from showing the floorplan, it might be helpful if you upload actual photos showing how your stairs/handrail/closet wall intersect with your bedroom, similar to the photo below.
