Glass panel backsplash

Does anyone know of someone who does glass panel backsplashes in the Detroit metro area?

I'm sorry Sue, I don't, but I wonder whether starting a new thread "Sheet glass backsplash Detroit" and asking the same question might attract some pros here on houzz.

    Try a glass shop.

Mobuddy, thanks! I'm in Dearborn, but that should work, I'll let my contractor know! Do you know if they do just plain painted glass? I don't really want any kind of design, and that's all I see on their site. Thanks

Sue, you are a bit away from Sterling Heights/Shelby, but it would be worth your while to go to the company yourself. I was interested in just a back-painted backsplash too, but they can add a subtle design or go even very bold with a custom art/graphics. Laura told me that they can use any Pantone color. I was so impressed with their work. I looked again at their Facebook pics and to be honest they could do a better job showing some real life pictures.

Sue, I sent them this picture as an inspiration and she had no problem with just back-painted.

I found a glass shop that can order plain back painted glass, but the price was crazy. I bought a table for my living room and wanted to have a glass top for protection by also as a design element. It was a metal console table from CB2 and I thought a piece of back painted glass in white would be a cool addition. They wanted $300 just for a 10 x 50 inch piece of glass. I believe they sourced from a company called ColorKote. In the end, I put a pretty piece of paper underneath the low iron glass that I got for $75. One day I might try spray painting it.

For your project, you obviously need something that can hold up cooking steam, etc.

There is also a special primer type of paint (also very expensive) that can be used that will allow the finish topcoat paint to stick without scratching off. For my small project it would also been too much. I can't find the name of it. I want to say it also cost well over $200 for a gallon. It would allow you or your contractor to DIY.

There is no reason why glass backsplashes should be so expensive, except that they are not very common in the US.

Try a commercial glass shop or order tempered glass. Also, search gardenweb. There are several threads with lots of useful suggestions.

Mobuddy, I really like what you did in the photo. Very cool! I might give them a call and make a visit since you speak so highly

Sue, that is an inspiration pic for IF we ever get to remodel. I did not actually use them for an install and unfortunately, my current kitchen looks nothing like that!

But when I do get to remodel .... I really want a warm, modern look with slab cabinets and rift-cut wood. My house is a ranch with lots of traditional touches and some colonial-like features. My dream home will be Scandinavian inspired with lots of natural light. Don't think that will happen until retirement and most likely not in Michigan.

If you do go with Imagio, I truly hope they live up to my expectations and yours. I really didn't like the glass shops I went to while looking for my table top and would be hesitant to use them for a backsplash system.

Just use plain glass and paint the wall behind it if you want color. Should be FAR less expensive. The mews house we rented in London had this.

It was clear glass but it makes the wall color a shade darker - it was quite attractive and would be SO easy to keep clean!

Anglo, do you how much it cost for those homeowners in London?

Mobuddy89, wanted to let you know that we are going with imagio. My contractor says they have been great to work with so far, but it's not going to be cheap. It's quite an up charge over what my contractor had allowed for glass tiles. We want to go with benjamin Moore molten metallic silver paint. They are going to paint a small sample for us so we can be sure.

Sue, that is good. I am glad I could offer help (I absorb so much here so it is nice to contribute once in a while). I think it will look great with your kitchen -- if I remember correctly from your photos so far, your style is modern. But just think, no grout or lines to muddy up your clean aesthetic!

Exactly mobuddy! Our cabinets are white and the counter is Cambria roxwell, which has white, charcoal, and silvery sparkles. Can't wait to see how it all looks. Will post some photos when it's finally done!

I have a back painted glass splash and love it!. The big money was in all the cuts they had to do for the outlets and light switches. If only I had used plugmold!

lurkerlisa, thanks for sharing. Yours looks beautiful! I couldn't convince my husband to go that bold, but I love it!

Here's the best thread that I found - I wish I was really bold!

Lisa, I actually think those are from Imagio. They are bold aren't they?

I love the red glass in yours! I commented on your kitchen earlier this year, but just to say again -- it doesn't have to be big to be beautiful nor white shaker -- not that there is anything wrong with that (as I channel Seinfeld here).

Sue, I hope all goes well. I wrote them yesterday and found out the person I talked to has left the firm. They all seemed really nice though and I am very glad you are getting a sample first (hope it is big enough to help you judge if it is right in the space).
