Even using a slightly modified 5-1-1 planting mix (only 1 part peat would probably be better), you're still going to have to repot every 3 years or so, trim roots, move into a larger container, keep a careful watch on watering and fertilizing. Is it worth it? Girard's Hot Shot is a commonly available azalea that naturally grows to quite a large size. Keeping it healthy for 10 years strikes me as fairly impractical. Why not enjoy a smaller growing potted azalea, then buy a new Hot Shot when you're ready to plant in the ground?

You know what, I don't think its worth it.. I might as well just buy and plant it then. Its just that I don't see it in nurseries that often and I found one in Lowes the other day but I went to day again and they didn't have it anymore!
