I too have friends who grow Concord or other similar type grapes (Fredonia, ect) and never prune, spray ect. Yes they get lots of fruit.

I do prune and spray my Concords. I have had issues in the past with the dreaded grape berry moth several times. Even with spraying I sometimes find it on fruit hanging low in dense part of canopy. I even resorted to pruning some leaves off around my fruit clusters in late summer so my insecticide gets the fruit covered for protection.

I have not been plagued with black rot but I spray fungicide (preventative spray) for it. I think you are very lucky if you do not spray and have no pests to battle.

Table grapes? I have grown Reliance and Canadice. At least in SE WI where I am they get the same fungal/insecticide issues as Concord. My only issue with them is winter hardiness. I lost all of them a few winters ago when we hit -18. The Concord survived, the seedless grapes did not. Fun growing them while they lasted and the fruit was excellent.

Wasps are so bad by me starting in August thru September that I will never plant early ripening grapes again. I find Concord better for me as ripens in Late September when the wasp population is somewhat reduced compared to what I found in August. I had to resort to using wasp traps heavily around my Canadice and Reliance or the wasps would totally destroy the crop before they were fully ripe.

I spray with Captan 50 WP. I already use this fungicide on all my apple trees so easy enough to use on my grapes as well.

No all grapes are not that easy. Concord is a native american grape, labrusca. If you were to get a european type grape, vinifera, it will be much more disease prone. Vinifera are the most popular table/wine grapes.
