First Little Harvest

All Sungolds except the one at 1 o'clock, which is a Chocolate Sprinkle. I have not eaten one yet, I feel like there should be a ceremony to mark this event, given the efforts to get to this point began in mid January, and then all the things that happened, planned and unplanned, and all the caretaking, freeze averting, hardening off, etc. Eating the first tomato of the season IS an act of celebration. I don't think anyone can pop one in their mouth without acknowledging the effort and also having some pride and also being very very thankful. I know there are others who are trying very hard also. The weather has been unkind this year.

Nice looking tomatoes there, Janice, and I agree that the first tomato is always a celebratory affair. I grow Hahms Gelbe micro tomatoes under my grow lights starting in January and have been harvesting ripe fruit from them for about 6 weeks now, but it's not the same since I have total control over them (being under my lights and all with no pests or weather to worry about). Once early August comes around and I'm harvesting those beauties outdoors, it will be time to celebrate. :)

I have also picked few Sungold, Silvery Fir Tree and some from my mystery overwintered seedling/plant

Congrats on your first harvest of the season. I harvested a bunch of cherries again and finally got my first riipe Brandywines.

if gardening was not full of the trials and tribulations you mention, I don't think it would be half as rewarding.

No , I found it in my new location in NC. I moved here late September, 2016.

I just kept it like a houseplant, without any grow light system. But I used to took it outside often when it was warm and sunny. .I called it : MY WINTER GARDEN.

Harvested my first Sun Golds the last week of April. First few were added to a salad. Since then I've eaten a few out of hand and tonight finally had enough to make a smashed sauce. Served it over Trader Joe's Ricotta & Lemon Zest Ravioli. Looking forward to the first fresh (uncooked) sauce. Hopefully later this week.
