That sucks, If its any consolation, I have to order from online nursery's and the average tree is about $65-$75 with shipping. Even the Meyers in the stores are $40-$55. The best deal I found was a small rooted Navel orange cutting for $15 at Home Depot which I immediately bought even though I am not entirely sure its going to make it. I use the term rooted very lightly in this case, poor thing practically tips out of its pot. I wish I lived in SoCal where they have all these amazing varieties for dirt cheap.

I can get all sorts of stone fruit, apples, and berries for dirt cheap. But I have to PAAAAAY for citrus because of the shipping and then they are super small.

Mike- if in ten years it's even more expensive to buy citrus, we might have to start an underground cutting exchange haha!

I am not really in the Citrus buying mode these days..., no space, no money, no time, and enough is finally enough! I think I have just about everything I wanted to have in my collection, so have not really been looking at the Citrus in the market. But I have to say, I really don't see all that many being sold. Most of the better mom and pop better garden centers/farms have closed down (due to the big box stores and increasing land values). My Lowe's sells no Citrus, HD sells smallish ones that don't even look so hot..., but at the few remaining better nurseries, I can get a small Eureka lemon like the one pictured above for between $20.00-$25.00 and a much larger one for between $40.00-$60.00.

Funny, I did see a pomegranate this weekend like the one in the picture for about the same price (but the tree was 5 feet tall), and supposed to be locally hardy in the ground. I have a dwarf pomegranate and that I can confirm is very cold hardy (more so than the non dwarfs for those interested). (My other containerize poms are going to be containerized until they get some girth.) I am assuming most of the local Citrus plants in NJ come out of Florida (South Florida?) More recently, most of my Citrus were purchased by mail-order suppliers.

Here in Virginia they're quite expensive as well. I've never seen them in lowes or hd, only some shabby generic varieties in walmart. The greenhouse had some nice ones last year, but yeah they were in that 60-70$ range.
