caulk is too dark

Hi everyone,

I purchased sanded grout and caulk in the same color but when applied the caulk is so much darker. The contractor didn't say anything and I am assuming they thought it would dry to match but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I already removed the caulk between the tub and tile but not yet on the corners/ceiling or bottom of tub and floor. It was applied yesterday. Any advice on what we should do that hopefully wont be too many extra hours to pay my contractor? Here are some pictures but it looks much worse in person :-(

Dig it out with a non-metalic scraper and fill it with Axiom Translucent Gray available from www.daniclamp.com

Wait till it cures, apply a solvent at intervals and let fester, then remove.

I have never seen grout color matched caulk that far off. First pick up another tube and verify the grout color & caulk. Something is not correct here. Either the wrong product was purchased or a switch happened. Why would you pay your contractor extra? Looking at the grout job I would have him regrouting & re caulking the entire tub surround. Those grout joints should be nice and smooth and anyone with common sense would have noticed the caulk didn't match as soon as they started.

thank you all. I agree he should have stopped. It is so bizarre because I personally checked the grout color and the caulk color before leaving the store. He said he noticed and went back to the grout and when he saw the colors were the same, he assumed it would dry lighter. He scraped it all out and will be recaulking. So glad to be able to get advice fro all of you!!!

I don't recall caulk changing colors as it drys. It is pretty stable in color rendition, as I recall.
