The effect of altitude change on Iris

I've had some potted tall bearded iris for a few years and they have quite large flowers and leaves, but I moved from around 500 feet elevation to 5,400 feet in March as the flower stalks were just starting make the iris fans bulge at the rhizome. Now that the plants are blooming the stalks are about half as short as they normally are and the flowers are about 1/3 to 1/2 smaller than they have been in past years. Could this be because they went to a higher altitude while the stalks and buds were growing? Will they always be smaller here, or after they adjust will they go back to normal next year.
Thanks
